Snail Mail

A slow idea, built twice

Snail Mail started in 2018 as a little Wix site called sendandwait. The pitch was simple: messages that take their time to arrive, the way letters used to.

Back then you could make an account, browse members and pick a delivery time. That was about as far as Wix would let it go. There was no way to see where your message was, no real waiting, and no reason to come back.

This is the rebuild I always wanted to make. Same idea, same patience, but everything works now.

The 2018 version

“Lets turn back time.” Still true.

Who runs this

Hi, I’m Elijah. I made the first version of Snail Mail back in 2018 and finally gave it the rebuild it deserved. It’s a one-person project: I write the code, read every piece of feedback and keep the carriers fed.

What changed

  • Every letter gets a tracking number and a live map. You can watch it cross the ocean.
  • Six carriers with their own pace, from a pigeon in an hour to a snail in a year.
  • Letters are sealed until they land. No peeking, not even at a letter to future you.
  • Write to a member, to anyone by private link, or to yourself.
  • A notification when something arrives, including from your phone’s home screen.
  • Pen pals are opt-in and adults only, with blocking and reporting built in.
